We used olive oil instead of butter and just one tablespoon of Parmesan to keep this loaf heart smart. We used dried oregano in this recipe, but you can swap in 1 tablespoon chopped fresh oregano if you have it on hand.

  • 1 loaf Italian bread
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 garlic cloves, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 tablespoon freshly grated Parmesan cheese

Preheat oven to 350 F. Slice loaf lengthwise in half. Sprinkle cut sides of bread with oil, garlic, oregano and Parmesan. Press halves of bread together again and wrap loaf in foil; bake 15 minutes or until top of bread is lightly browned.

Each slice: About 110 calories, 3g protein, 16g carbohydrate, 4g total fat (1g saturated fat), 1g fiber, 0mg cholesterol, 188mg sodium
