Ground flaxseeds give this smoothie a slightly nutty flavour and a bost of heart healthy omega-3 fatty acids.

Serves 2

  • 2 cups (500 ml) low-fat milk or soy milk
  • 1 cup (250 ml) mixed berries, such as strawberries, blueberries, or raspberries, fresh or frozen
  • 1 medium banana
  • 2 tbsp ground flaxseed

In a blender, combine milk, berries, banana and flaxseed; puree until smooth.

Nutrition

Per 1-1/2 cup (375 ml) serving: 225 calories, 10 g protein, 6 g total fat (2 g saturated fat), 35 g carbohydrate, 5 g fibre, 10 mg cholesterol,127 mg sodium.

Tip: Store ground flaxseeds in the fridge to extend their shelf life.
